McNabb Redux: Limbaugh Trashes Golf Prodigy Michelle Wie

Radio host Rush Limbaugh has turned his guns on 16-year-old golf prodigy Michelle Wie. In a recent interview with BadGolfer.com:

[Wie is] a triumph of marketing. … Do you think these PGA Tour guys really think she deserves to be a tournament with them? The political-correctness situation will just not allow them to say it. … [Golf champion Vijay Singh, who was criticized for saying of another female player, “If I’m drawn with her, which I won’t be, I won’t play“] learned like many people in our unfortunate society where political correctness is prized most. Vijay was honest and look what it got him. Attacked by a bunch of liberals and femi-nazis.

I think what it raises is fundamental questions about competence.

Matthews: ...Here's what Cohen received, a call from the vice president, Cheney. Here's what he said. He said that he wanted to see one thing. He did not want to see a tour of the world or all the potential threats to our country, he wanted to get a briefing for the new president, his partner, George W. Bush, on one topic, Iraq. That's all he wanted."

I talked to Bill Cohen a number of times on this, and he said it was breath taking. All the vice president wanted to know about, he didn't care about the world all around the globe, the only thing he cared about was Iraq. He was already honing in on that decision in December of 2000. What does that tell you?

SANDS: Well, I think it tells us that all of this is completely consistent with the materials that emerged, the Downing Street Memo of July 2002, and now this White House meeting memo of January 2003, that an early decision was taken, and I think what it raises is fundamental questions about competence.

VIRUS REVIVED

In October, Tumpey and a team led by Dr. Jeffery Taubenberger of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology announced they had achieved a remarkable feat. Not only did they discover the virus' entire genetic code, they brought it back to life in a tightly controlled laboratory at CDC offices in Atlanta.

The virus that had swept the globe, infecting more than one-fourth of the world's population, existed on earth once again.

is somebody looking to unleash a new virii to ease the burden on the planet for the elites to maintain?(i'll work on that sentence)

So many people died, including 675,000 Americans, that it lowered the average life expectancy in the United States by more than 10 years.

Spirited crowds representing labor, religious groups, civil-rights advocates and ordinary immigrants stretched over 26 blocks of downtown Los Angeles

Joining what some are calling the nation's largest mobilization of immigrants ever, hundreds of thousands of people boisterously marched in downtown Los Angeles Saturday to protest federal legislation that would crack down on undocumented immigrants, penalize those who help them and build a security wall on the U.S. southern border. Spirited crowds representing labor, religious groups, civil-rights advocates and ordinary immigrants stretched over 26 blocks of downtown Los Angeles from Adams Blvd. along Spring Street and Broadway to City Hall, tooting kazoos, waving American flags and chanting "Si se puede!" (Yes we can!). The crowd, estimated by police at more than 500.000, represented one of the largest protest marches in Los Angeles history, surpassing Vietnam War demonstrations and the 70,000 who rallied downtown against Proposition 187, a 1994 state initiative that denied public benefits to undocumented migrants.

Bush shuns Patriot Act requirement In addendum to law, he says oversight rules are not binding

WASHINGTON -- When President Bush signed the reauthorization of the USA Patriot Act this month, he included an addendum saying that he did not feel obliged to obey requirements that he inform Congress about how the FBI was using the act's expanded police powers.

Bush wrote: ''The executive branch shall construe the provisions . . . that call for furnishing information to entities outside the executive branch . . . in a manner consistent with the president's constitutional authority to supervise the unitary executive branch and to withhold information . . . The statement represented the latest in a string of high-profile instances in which Bush has cited his constitutional authority to bypass a law.

see you on the morrow.....

a telemarketer hired by the state GOP jammed the telephones of five state Democratic and one firefighters union get-out-the-vote phone banks.

CALLING KEN?

In the days before and after the state Republican Party’s 2002 Election Day phone-jamming scheme, the man who now chairs the Republican National Committee was the White House director of political affairs.

And a Democratic-affiliated advocacy group says that court records show Ken Mehlman’s office received more than 75 telephone calls from now-convicted phone-jam conspirator James Tobin from Sept. 30 to Nov. 22 of that year.

The Senate Majority Project, a brainchild “527” of former Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle, wonders why Tobin called the White House so often. Tobin at the time worked for the Republican National Committee and the affiliated National Republican Senatorial Committee — and a hot race that year was the New Hampshire Senate contest between Republican John Sununu and Democrat Jeanne Shaheen.

On election morning, a telemarketer hired by the state GOP jammed the telephones of five state Democratic and one firefighters union get-out-the-vote phone banks.

Former state GOP executive director Chuck McGee admitted masterminding the scheme and served seven months in jail last year for it. Tobin was found guilty in December of federal telephone harassment charges for acting as a middle man. An appeal is expected if the trial court in Concord turns down his request for a new trial.

“All we have is the phone number and the fact that calls were made to the White House,” says SMP executive director Mike Gehrke, a former high-level Clinton administration staffer. “But we also know from the court record that a lot of other calls about the scheme were going on. For a period of time, this was the hot topic.

“With that many calls, I believe it’s inconceivable that there wasn’t some knowledge of this at the White House,” Gehrke said. “At the very least, it is evidence that there needs to be a bigger net cast here before the end of this case.”

Meanwhile, John McCain has hired Tobin’s old boss at the RNC, Terry Nelson, as an adviser to his Straight Talk America PAC.

Nelson was identified in the Tom DeLay indictment as the recipient of a $190,000 check in illegal corporate campaign contributions and a list of Republican candidates for the Texas Legislature for whom the money was intended.

In 2002, Nelson was Republican National Committee national political director while Tobin was both RNC New England political director and Northeast political director of the GOP senatorial committee.

Nelson and Tobin then moved to the Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign — Nelson as campaign political director and Tobin as New England chairman.

Dismissing the notion that Nelson had anything to do with phone-jamming, New Hampshire McCain strategist Michael Dennehy said of Nelson, “We’re happy to have him.”

South Dakota Tribe to Build Planned Parenthood Clinic

The President of the Oglala Sioux Tribe on the Pine Ridge Reservation, Cecilia Fire Thunder, was incensed [that South Dakota Republicans voted to ban abortions, even in cases of rape or incest]. A former nurse and healthcare giver she was very angry that a state body made up mostly of white males, would make such a stupid law against women.

“To me, it is now a question of sovereignty,” she said to me last week. “I will personally establish a Planned Parenthood clinic on my own land which is within the boundaries of the Pine Ridge Reservation where the State of South Dakota has absolutely no jurisdiction.”

Strong words from a very strong lady. I hope Ms. Fire Thunder challenges Gov. Rounds and the state legislators on this law that is an affront to all independent women.Pensito Review

This morning while walking around the site before many other people were on site my foot caught a 20'length of 1" copper pipe. And off to the fookun circus I went. The pipe seemed to stick to my boot toe. It wouldn't fall off. I'm falling forward with a pipe stuck to my boot. My gynormous bulk of a person can't be stopped on its eventual downward fall. I fell about 10' from where I first started tripping. Landed on both palms my knee and my fookun elbow hurt for a few tens of minutes while the bruises set in. I landed on several other pipes that have been laying on the corridor floor for days upon days. Of course I should have been picking my feet up instead of shuffling along aimlessly. I quickly regained my sense of direction and looked behind me to see if anyone was watching or there was a funniest home video camera man, as we all know there is nothing funnier than a grown fat man getting hurt as he falls or hit in the balls by a child's baseball bat now is there? I looked about and thank gawd nobody was looking or filming so i wouldn't have to exclaim in haste " i meant to do that"

“There is a visibility factor in the president’s public acts, and those which betray a trust or reveal contempt for the law are hard to sweep under the rug…They reverberate, they ricochet all over the land and provide the worst possible example for our young people.”

Former Representative, now Senator, Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina):

“The president of the United States sets [sic] atop of the legal pyramid. If there’s reasonable doubt about his ability to faithfully execute the laws of the land, our future would be better off if that individual is removed. And let me tell you where it all comes down to me. If you can go back and explain to your children and your constituents how you can be truthful and misleading at the same time, good luck.”

In 1999, Republicans in Congress were outraged over presidential mendacity:

Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-Pennsylvania), current chairman of the House Judiciary Committee:

“[The] rule of law should apply to everyone, no matter what excuses are made by the president’s defenders… We have done so because of our devotion to the rule of law and our fear that if the president does not suffer the legal and constitutional consequences of his actions, the impact of allowing the president to stand above the law will be felt for generations to come –laws not enforced are open invitations for more serious and more criminal behavior.”

Summary:
Snakes on a Plane stars Samuel L. ACTUALLY, I can't make that last statement. A corporation has patented that fact, and demands a royalty for its use. “If you spent a million dollars a day for a million days (2,739 years),” you’d hit $1 trillion,

pensitoreview

I just found out I’m deeper in the red than I thought. But at least I’m not alone. Every single American is right there with me, thanks to a Senate vote today to increase the national debt to $9 trillion. We’re all paying the price for Bush’s bad decisions, like tax breaks for the rich, pre-emptively going to war in Iraq and a delayed response to Hurricane Katrina.

Wednesday, March 15, 2006

US Comptroller General David Walker reported that “the federal government’s fiscal exposures now total more than $46 trillion,

The Washington Post landed the first punch with the following report on March 6th. “WASHINGTON -- Treasury Secretary John Snow notified Congress on Monday that the administration has now taken “all prudent and legal actions,” including tapping certain government retirement funds, to keep from hitting the $8.2 trillion national debt limit…Treasury officials, briefing congressional aides last week, said that the government will run out of maneuvering room to keep from exceeding the current limit sometime during the week of March 20.”

The second punch was delivered a couple of days later by this Dow Jones Newswires dispatch: “WASHINGTON (Dow Jones) -- The U.S. government ran a monthly budget deficit of $119.20 billion in February, an all-time monthly record that was still slightly less than forecast, according to a Treasury report Friday. The February federal government deficit was 5% greater than a year earlier, according to the Treasury Department's monthly budget statement.”

These two reports make clear the dire financial straits the federal government is facing, but its financial position is even worse than it appears. The $8.2 trillion debt limit -- that has proven inadequate to meet the federal government’s borrowing needs -- covers only its direct liabilities. In other words, this $8.2 trillion is the total amount of dollars owed to all the holders of US government debt instruments. Excluded from this total debt are all of the federal government’s other liabilities, which total another $38 trillion. In “The 2005 Financial Report of the United States Government”, US Comptroller General David Walker reported that “the federal government’s fiscal exposures now total more than $46 trillion, up from $20 trillion in 2000.”

Bush’s combustible combination of stupidity, arrogance and power makes him susceptible to the Machiavellian machinations of evil men

I once saw a bumper sticker that read: “I’ve never made a mistake. I thought I did once, but I was wrong.”

Well I have made a mistake. And today I must apologize to loyal Pravda.Ru readers, and to the thirty percent of Americans still enamored with the Bush dictatorship.

George W. Bush is not evil. He’s just stupid.

On second thought, this stupidity does make him susceptible to the Machiavellian machinations of evil men, like Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Donald Rumsfeld, Alberto Gonzales and the rest of the plutocratic oligarchs who control America so extensively they can even abandon the facade of consulting with their puppet when developing policies detrimental to the nation and the world, but beneficial to their avariciousness and corruption.

If this reality was ever in doubt, one need only reflect upon the oligarchs’ now infamous attempt to transfer management of several American port terminals to a Middle-Eastern company. According to reports, Bush was not even privy to discussions about this plan until after they had been completed.

Of course this was not the first time the puppet masters ignored their puppet. In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks, reports also indicated that Bush was basically treated like an annoying child who is instructed to play in the corner while the “grown-ups” engage in conversation.
George W. Bush is not evil. He’s just stupid.

Today our work roster was 52 in total. 15 of those decided that the risk of driving in wasn't worth the reward of a full days pay for actually chatting about the snow and your drive into town or back out. Milosevic found dead in Hague cell

Milosevic has suffered high blood pressure and heart problems
Former Yugoslav leader Slobodan Milosevic has been found dead in his prison cell in The Hague, independent B-92 radio and state TV said Saturday
Milosevic has been on trial for genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes since 2002.

The station said it had heard the news from unofficial sources.

A senior European Union diplomat said he believed the report was true and thought the UN war crimes tribunal was preparing a statement.

Milosevic's heart condition and high blood pressure have repeatedly interrupted his trial.

Milosevic was sent to The Hague war crimes court in June 2001, eight months after he was toppled in a popular uprising.

He was widely blamed in the West for the violent break-up of old socialist Yugoslavia in the 1990s.

HOUSE PROVIDES MORE COVER FOR CIA CRIMES

Sam Smith

In a major move almost entirely ignored by the media, the House of
Representatives voted to make it a crime to reveal not only the names of
current CIA agents but of former ones as well. The House also voice voted
mandatory sentencing for those convicted of revealing names.

The effect of the legislation is to provide still more cover for illegal CIA
activity, particularly in this country. It could soon well be against the
law to reveal W.J. Clinton's involvement with the agency going back to
Oxford days, or George Bush's decades-long affiliation with the CIA before
he was named its director. Other past examples of crucial information that
might soon be illegal to reveal: the 400 mainstream journalists who once
worked for the CIA, the Washington Post's Benjamin Bradlee's work for the
agency, the names of CIA operatives involved in drug smuggling in this
country out of such places as Mena AK, and the names of CIA operatives
illegally placed in city police departments in positions as high as chief.

Provisions make reporting on government surveillance illegal

Reporters who write about government surveillance could be prosecuted under proposed legislation that would solidify the administration's eavesdropping authority, according to some legal analysts who are concerned about dramatic changes in U.S. law.

But an aide to the bill's chief author, Sen. Mike DeWine, R-Ohio, said that is not the intention of the legislation.

"It in no way applies to reporters — in any way, shape or form," said Mike Dawson, a senior policy adviser to DeWine, responding to an inquiry Friday afternoon. "If a technical fix is necessary, it will be made."

The Associated Press obtained a copy of the draft of the legislation, which could be introduced as soon as next week.

"He speaks to the audience as if they're idiots. I think the reason he does that is because that's the way these issues were explained to him."

"He loved Big Brother."

The agency also changed the ending of the movie version of "1984," disregarding Orwell's specific instructions that the story not be altered. In the book, the protagonist, Winston Smith, is entirely defeated by the nightmarish totalitarian regime. In the very last line, Orwell writes of Winston, "He loved Big Brother." In the movie, Winston and his lover, Julia, are gunned down after Winston defiantly shouts: "Down with Big Brother!" . . .

UAE buys British firm that runs U.S. military facilities

World Tribune | March 4 2006

WASHINGTON — The United Arab Emirates intends to operate U.S. military factories.

The Bush administration has informed Congress of a review of the UAE acquisition of a British manufacturer of engine components for U.S. military aircraft and main battle tanks. The British firm operates nine factories, including military production facilities in Connecticut and Georgia.

Officials said Dubai International Capital has acquired the London-based Doncasters Group for $1.2 billion. Doncasters produces engine components and turbine blades for military platforms, and its clients include Boeing, General Electric, Honeywell and Pratt and Whitney, Middle East Newsline reported.
"It's a standard business deal by a consortium that seeks opportunities," an official said. "But it also fits in well with Dubai's plans to create an aerospace industry."

“We are not killing them faster than they are being created,”

Pentagon’s Deputy Counterterrorism Director: We’re Losing

President Bush continues to claim we are winning the war on terrorism. From a February 9 speech:

Despite the violence and the suffering the terrorists are wreaking, we’re winning the war on terror.

Brig. Gen. Robert L. Caslen, the Pentagon’s deputy director for the war on terrorism, disagrees. From yesterday’s Washington Times:

Thirty new terrorist organizations have emerged since the September 11, 2001, attacks, outpacing U.S. efforts to crush the threat, said Brig. Gen. Robert L. Caslen, the Pentagon’s deputy director for the war on terrorism.

“We are not killing them faster than they are being created,” Caslen told a gathering at the Woodrow Wilson Center yesterday, warning that the war could take decades to resolve.

New ‘Office of Iranian Affairs’ Outlined in State Department Cable

The Bush administration this month “quietly orchestrated a major shift in U.S. policy toward Iran,” requesting $85 million for a plan “not just to contain Tehran’s nuclear ambitions but also to topple the Iranian government.” An unclassified State Department cable released this morning offers details on this new strategy. ThinkProgress has acquired a copy of the document, which you can read here.

The cable announces a new Office of Iranian Affairs, and serves as a casting call for Iran and Persian language experts. It states that the U.S. is establishing positions in the United Arab Emirates and developing “reporting” positions in countries with large Iranian exile communities, including Germany, Great Britain, and Azerbaijan, among others.thinkprogress.org has more
