it is better to perish than to live as slaves

"If you will not fight for the right, "when you can easily win without bloodshed, if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not so costly, you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance for survival. There may be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no chance of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves."

BP accused of price manipulation

BP is facing legal action in the US over charges that it tried to manipulate propane prices in 2004.

Regulators allege its BP Products North America subsidy artificially forced up prices by buying up huge propane stocks only to withhold them from the market.

BP has denied the civil charges and said it intended to defend itself, and added that staff had been dismissed.

On Wednesday, a former BP trader, Dennis Abbott, pleaded guilty to manipulating the propane market.in my opinion this is standard operations. they are monopolies and are capable of price fixing at any time look at what enron was doing in california oregon and washington.......

Paper Retracts Report that Murtha Called U.S. the Greatest Threat to World Peace

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel has retracted its false report that Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) called the United States the greatest threat to world peace:

Correction: An article in Sunday’s editions misinterpreted a comment from U.S. Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., at a town hall meeting in North Miami on Saturday. In his speech, Murtha said U.S. credibility was suffering because of continued U.S. military presence in Iraq ,and the perception that the U.S. is an occupying force. Murtha was citing a recent poll, by the Pew Global Attitudes Project, that indicates a greater percentage of people in 10 of 14 foreign countries consider the U.S. in Iraq a greater danger to world peace than any threats posed by Iran or North Korea.

The purported quote was seized upon by right-wing pundits, who claimed that Murtha had put “all Americans in danger” and was “in the thrall” of anti-American activists. Now they need to correct the record and let their viewers know that Murtha was quoted erroneously.

Email Bill O’Reilly, Brit Hume, Joe Scarborough, and Tucker Carlson — oreilly@foxnews.com, brit.hume@foxnews.com, joe@msnbc.com, Tucker@msnbc.com — and urge them to correct the record for their viewers. (Feel free to repost your letters in the comments section, and let us know if you hear back.)

Bringing It All Back Home: The Bush War on Liberty Intensifies
Written by Chris Floyd

Tuesday, 27 June 2006
Glenn Greenwald has the goods on the all-out war that the Bush Regime and its bootlicking sycophants throughout the right-wing media are waging against the free
press. The recent "controversy" over the New York Times report on the Regime's surveillance of bank records is, as Greenwald astutely notes, based entirely on outright falsehoods. It is also being deliberately stoked by the White House, whose lies about the non-existent "damage" the NYT story has done to national security are exposed here -- by their own words. Greenwald turns up quote after quote, going back years, many of them from Bush himself, detailing the same kind of information relayed in the Times' story. Yet, as Greenwald and others report (Atrios has been good on this as well), the Regime's hate campaign has now burst into the media mainstream, where calls for Times editors to stand trial for the capital crime of treason are routinely being aired, along with scarcely veiled exhortations for mob violence against the press. (But only the so-called "liberal" press. The fact that the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times and other papers have also run stories on the banking records is ignored or dismissed by the hatemongers.)

rush "pills" limbaugh detained

(CBS4 News) WEST PALM BEACH Sources have confirmed to CBS4 News that conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh has been detained at Palm Beach International Airport for the possible possession of illegal prescription drugs Monday evening.

Limbaugh was returning on a flight from the Dominican Republic when officials found the drugs, among them Viagra.

Limbaugh entered a plea deal back in April in a previous case where his charge of fraud to conceal information to obtain prescriptions was dropped under the condition he continue undergoing treatment for addiction.

Limbaugh had admitted to being addicted to pain killers on his radio program and had entered a rehabilitation program prior to that arrest.

THE FOX NEW FOUR PART STORY ON ISRAELI SPYING IN THE US
Posted Jun 26, 2006 12:13 PM PST
Category: ISRAELI SPYING

These are the videos AIPAC lobbied FOX News to remove from their website. Since then,. AIPAC has found itself embroiled in yet another espionage case, this time involving an operative inside the very Pentagon office from which many of the now discredited claims abut Iraq's WMD.

FOX News threatened this website to force the removal of these videos, but they appear here at this outside website for those of you unaware that on 9-11, the largest foreign spy ring ever uncovered in the US was in the process of being rounded up, and that evidence linking these arrested Israeli spies to 9-11 has been classified by the US Government

The theory was eugenics, and its history is so dreadful

Why Politicized Science is Dangerous
(Excerpted from State of Fear)

Imagine that there is a new scientific theory that warns of an impending crisis, and points to a way out.

This theory quickly draws support from leading scientists, politicians and celebrities around the world. Research is funded by distinguished philanthropies, and carried out at prestigious universities. The crisis is reported frequently in the media. The science is taught in college and high school classrooms.

I don't mean global warming. I'm talking about another theory, which rose to prominence a century ago.

Its supporters included Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and Winston Churchill. It was approved by Supreme Court justices Oliver Wendell Holmes and Louis Brandeis, who ruled in its favor. The famous names who supported it included Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone; activist Margaret Sanger; botanist Luther Burbank; Leland Stanford, founder of Stanford University; the novelist H. G. Wells; the playwright George Bernard Shaw; and hundreds of others. Nobel Prize winners gave support. Research was backed by the Carnegie and Rockefeller Foundations. The Cold Springs Harbor Institute was built to carry out this research, but important work was also done at Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford and Johns Hopkins. Legislation to address the crisis was passed in states from New York to California.

These efforts had the support of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Medical Association, and the National Research Council. It was said that if Jesus were alive, he would have supported this effort.

All in all, the research, legislation and molding of public opinion surrounding the theory went on for almost half a century. Those who opposed the theory were shouted down and called reactionary, blind to reality, or just plain ignorant. But in hindsight, what is surprising is that so few people objected.

Today, we know that this famous theory that gained so much support was actually pseudoscience. The crisis it claimed was nonexistent. And the actions taken in the name of theory were morally and criminally wrong. Ultimately, they led to the deaths of millions of people.

The theory was eugenics, and its history is so dreadful --- and, to those who were caught up in it, so embarrassing --- that it is now rarely discussed. But it is a story that should be well know to every citizen, so that its horrors are not repeated.

The theory of eugenics postulated a crisis of the gene pool leading to the deterioration of the human race. The best human beings were not breeding as rapidly as the inferior ones --- the foreigners, immigrants, Jews, degenerates, the.......more

Don't feel like blogging wc today

I'm not a zealot for futbol and I don't feel like even putting another nekkid tittie up in honor of any countries teams tie today.
soccer is ok but not a feast to live and die for. No sport has my undivided attention for more than a few games in a row. I don't have a stake in it, no horse I own is in the race. Sure a state team or a national team is a diversion to monitor. But its not a thing I want to really spend too much emotion on.
I spend my emotion it seems only on my work. One of the few things in my mundane life that I do expel and extend any amount of emotional capitol on. That and the traffic I must endure to get to my work.
outwardly I spend it there inwardly I have all kinds of pent up emotions waiting to be explored in the future when I get tired of complete mundanity............

impermanence and the absence of life

To practice wabi-sabi means to accept nature's process, including impermanence and the absence of life. You can start by taking notice of the details in your everyday life. A spiderweb full of dead bugs in the window frame. An old chair with chipped paint. A yellowed newspaper. These things could be dismissed as ugly and without value, but wabi-sabi teaches us that we are in a constant state of change and we must value that which is in the moment. ~ Wish Jar Journal, Keri Smith

Avedon Carol presents:The Sideshow

Specialist Mike Moriarty is filming his squad leader, Staff Sgt. Kevin Shangraw, as they bounce along in a Humvee. He asks his leader for his take on the broader mission, and Sergeant Shangraw comes straight off the dome with a government-issue rationale.

"Well, I think it's a fantastic opportunity for the Iraqis to establish a new history in the country and be able to be a free and democratic society, which in turn should stabilize the whole Middle East and create a freer and more stable earth as we know it."

"Tell me how you really feel," an unseen Specialist Moriarty prompts.

Sergeant. Shangraw waits a beat as the bleak landscape flies by in the window before answering.

"Then, after that happens, maybe we can buy everybody in the world a puppy."

a tie goes to the titties

Cerberus) from guardian :
Cerberus) 77 min People often say that 1-0 is a dangerous lead, for reasons so obvious I can't be bothered to explain them, but I will run naked round GU Towers singing Swing Out Sister's 1986 pop classic 'Breakout' if Korea equalise here.

Cerberus) 81 min: GOAL! France 1 Korea 1 (Park 81) Unbelievable! Ji-sung Park scores! It was a shambolic goal - it started with a wonderful deep cross to the far post, which was headed back across by Cho Jae-jin and Park, four yards out, somehow lobbed it over Barthez and in. Amazing! I don't know how much Park meant that - I'm guessing not at all - but it drifted over Barthez and escaped Gallas's desperate to clear off the line.
