Clinton has been savaged by the Republican Right plantation
January 20, 2006 SPECIAL EVENING EDITION -- New York Senator Hillary Clinton has been savaged by the Republican Right for stating that the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives is treating the body like a plantation. Hillary happens to be spot on. On Martin Luther King's birthday, Clinton told an African-American audience at a New York King tribute, ". . . when you look at the way the House of Representatives has been run, it has been run like a plantation. And you know what I'm talking about." Tomorrow morning at 11:00 am, the United Daughters of the Confederacy will host a birthday ceremony for Robert E. Lee in Statuary Hall in the Capitol Building. Confederate flags will be in abundance in the same hall where a statue of the late civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks will soon be displayed. Congressional insiders report that the official congressional sponsor of the Confederate event in House Speaker Dennis Hastert, who received $59,000 from slush funds connected to convicted GOP lobbyist Jack Abramoff in return for his sponsorship. In addition, Federal Claims Court Judge Richard Bender Abell is scheduled to be the guest speaker at the event.
