Pentagon memo reveals launch of new PR war

By LOLITA C. BALDOR
Associated Press

WASHINGTON — The Pentagon is buttressing its public relations staff and starting an operation akin to a political campaign war room as Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld faces intensifying criticism over the Iraq war.

In a memo obtained by the Associated Press, Dorrance Smith, assistant secretary of defense for public affairs, said new teams of people will "develop messages" for the 24-hour news cycle and "correct the record.""develop messages" you mean like "invent fake shit to feed the imbicles?"

Hemp for Victory

Hemp for Victory is a black-and-white film produced in 1942 by the USDA outlining a plan to distribute 400,000 lbs. of cannabis seeds to American farmers with the goal of producing 350,000 acres of cannabis by 1943 -- all for the war effort. The USDA even went as far as to urge 4-H clubs to grow at least half an acre, but preferably 2 acres of cannabis. All American farmers were required to see the film, sign a paper saying that they had viewed the film, and read a booklet on the matter. Farmers who agreed were waived from serving in the military, and all their family members were also exempt. They received farm equipment at a discounted price, and sometimes for free.

However, before and after the war -- the same plant was considered "demon weed" and the killer of the same kids that were pressed into service to grow it during the war. Furthermore, the USDA and Library of Congress denied the creation or existence of such a film until 2 copies were found and sent in to the Library of Congress. Talk about hypocrisy.

"the strategy had changed" what happens in united states if asian central banks don't buy our debt?

Costello seeks orderly $US withdrawal

John Garnaut Economics Correspondent
October 18, 2006

TREASURER Peter Costello has called on East Asia's central bankers to "telegraph" their intentions to diversify out of American investments and ensure an orderly adjustment.

Central banks in China, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and Hong Kong have channelled immense foreign reserves into American government bonds, helping to prop up the US dollar and hold down American interest rates.

Mr Costello said "the strategy had changed" and Chinese central bankers were now looking for alternative investments.

"Of course you can have an orderly adjustment," he told reporters. "And what I would recommend is that these matters be telegraphed well in advance. I think we should begin preparing ourselves for it."

The parade continued for two consecutive days last week........

Rebels stage military parade in Ramadi
Azzaman

Iraqi rebels have conducted a military parade in the city of Ramadi, west of Baghdad, to mark the setting up of what they call 'the Islamic Emirate’ of Iraq. The parade was organized by Majlis Shora al-Mujahideen, the Mujahideen Shora Council, in which thousands of fighters and hundreds of vehicles took part. The parade continued for two consecutive days last week (Thursday and Friday), residents said. The rebels brandished their weapons which included rocket launchers other heavy weapons as well as light arms. Clad in black uniforms, they raised placards vowing to continue fighting U.S. occupiers and the current Iraqi government led by a Shiite and Kurdish coalition. Eyewitness said the staging of the parade in the heart of Ramadi signaled that the rebels have had the upper hand in recent fighting in Iraq. Other major towns west of Baghdad are also said to be in rebel hands...

Putin Gets Mugged in Finland

(snip)
The Energy Charter Treaty and the EU Constitution focus on the very same objectives, that is, establishing the legal framework for placing the world and its dwindling resources in the hands of a small cadre of obscenely-wealthy western plutocrats.

Western elites have been waging an intensive public relations campaign against Putin since he nationalized Yukos Oil and put it under control of Gazprom. Gazprom is quickly growing into the world’s largest oil corporation and will probably achieve that goal within the decade.

Will the Democrats Blow It Again as They Did in 1986?

yes

Still Dancing to Ollie's Tune
Will the Democrats Blow It Again as They Did in 1986?
By Greg Grandin

A Republican Party on the ropes, bloodied by a mid-second-term scandal; a resurrected Democratic opposition, sure it can capitalize on public outrage to prove that it is still, in the American heart of hearts, the majority party.

But before House Democrats start divvying up committee assignments and convening special investigations, they should consider that they've been here before, and things didn't turn out exactly the way they hoped.

It was twenty years ago this November 3rd -- exactly one day after the Democrats regained control of the Senate after six years in the minority -- that the Lebanese magazine Ash-Shiraa reported on the Reagan administration's secret, high-tech missile sale to Ayatollah Khomeini's Iran, which violated an arms embargo against that country and contradicted President Ronald Reagan's personal pledge never to deal with governments that sponsored terrorism.

Appeals Court Upholds Terrorist Label for a Jewish Group

Judge Ginsburg wrote that Mr. Powell “could reasonably conclude” from news reports that Kahane Chai “was known to approve of terrorist tactics, including the mass murder of Arab worshipers,” was “possibly linked to a bombing of an Arab school” and was responsible for death threats against police officers investigating this second crime.

National Character Counts Week

We have another one to add to that collection because, whether you realize it or not, we're smack-dab in the middle of what Bush has officially proclaimed National Character Counts Week. It runs October 15 through October 21 and is intended, according to Bush, to "renew our commitment to instilling values in our young people and to encouraging all Americans to remember the importance of good character."

"As individuals, we all have an obligation to help our children become responsible citizens and realize their full potential," reads the Bush proclamation. "By demonstrating values such as integrity, courage, honesty, and patriotism, all Americans can help our children develop strength and character."

Of every president in United States history, how hypocritical is it for George W. Bush to talk about integrity and honesty?

Senator Larry Craig.... What's with the gay bashing?

(snip)
I have done extensive research into this case, including trips to the Pacific Northwest to meet with men who have say they have physical relations with the Senator. I have also met with a man here in Washington, D.C., who says the same -- and that these incidents occurred in the bathrooms of Union Station. None of these men know each other, or knew that I was talking to others. They all reported similar personal characteristics about the Senator, which lead me to believe, beyond any doubt, that their stories are valid.

When government restricts Americans' choices, ostensibly for their own good, someone is going to profit from the paternalism.

Granted, some people gamble too much. And some people eat too many cheeseburgers. But who wants to live in a society that protects the weak-willed by criminalizing cheeseburgers?

For the first time in the history of the United States, criteria were to be set up for the labeling of individuals believed to be potentially criminal

"We have a new situation on our hands," Dr. Ziferstein said. "Because of the intensifying economic decline it is inevitable that more and more jobless will go beyond the limits of the law to satisfy their needs. There are probably upwards of 30 percent of our population who are permanently impoverished ... And once these 30 percent become convinced that the democratic process is not working for them, they become desperate and may resort to violent means. There is a rising radicalism in their midst and there is an uppitiness among the blacks and the Chicano prisoners which prison officials find intolerable.

"To subdue them, the authorities are using new methods. They're employing the psychiatric armamentarium and a new technological tool set -- what has come to be known as psycho-technology. Under the guise of therapeutic behavior modification they're applying anything from Anectine and other aversive drugs to psychosurgery."

Intelligence agents don't only work against us at election time.

Intelligence agents don't only work against us at election time. They work every year, in every city, to help the power structure maintain control. They work against leftists, radicals and ordinary citizens assembling to inquire how their freedoms are being taken away.

Flipament and cheaters

Played a Flipament last nite cost was 11.10 pretty big pot for an all in tourney. It was a karmic donation to my account so it wasn't really any skin off my nutsac. But I take all serious games of skill, well serious! I was told before hand that its all in everyhand a complete crapshoot, like multi state lotto only some asshole from Missouri with ten million in the bank wins or a group of fucked up cheeseheads win the pots. I'm all game to do it I in my naivete believe in what the game is supposed to be. All in every hand. My hand is A6 os don't remember the rest of the cards I lost. But what was striking was that several players never went all in. Out of the 30 odd players I think 5-6 didn't play by the rules. This fucked up charade went on for prolly 30 minutes until the shortest of short stacks finally won the top prize of 140.00. and sarcastically thanked us all for our contribution. This facking cant should be banned for life from ever touching a deck of cards ever. A total disgrace to poker players around the planet. I used to hate playing Swedes, but now I hate playing fackin cants that cheat at flippament!

..have decided that the way for the GOP to win this election is to pander to extremist religious zealots that can’t stand to see any of us enjoy life

U.S. Senate smuggles through inapplicable online gambling ban

Just like thieves in the middle of the night would act, online gambling ban supporters smuggled it through by attaching it to the Port Security Bill at the last minute and passed in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

While full details are yet to be known, bits and pieces of the worthless piece of legislature transpired. The new legislation obliges banks to police and restrict financial transactions to and from gambling operators. Non complying financial institutions may be fined and taken to court if they fail to comply.

American Bankers Associations warned supporters of the bill that financial institutions don’t have the resources to implement the new law. Bankers added that existing resources are merely sufficient to track and trace suspicious money laundering transactions.
